Design Tips from the Experts
Our design professionals are here for advice on five ways to improve spending and living at home in a fashionable way. It may cost a bit more to have energy efficiency in the beginning of your transition, but there are ongoing benefits including decreased heating and cooling bills as well as benefits for the environment as time passes.

Tip #1: Windows allow natural light into your home, another energy efficiency must-have. A beautiful day should have a lot of windows that you can look out of and open up for fresh air. A fun tip is to dress up your windows with moveable curtains. This means you can have a natural ‘light bulb’ that you can turn on and off during your day. Double-insulated windows are also an energy and big cost saver. They decrease outside noise, energy used on maintaining home temperatures and are also a value booster when you look to move out.
Tip #2: Tech-less rooms are the new black. In a world of instant connection, we are finding ourselves less connected with our surroundings and the people we are with. Tech-less rooms can offer energy efficiency and help create meaningful relationships with your family and friends. Instead of watching Netflix or scrolling Facebook for hours, read a book or play a game with your loved ones.
Tip #3: Shop locally to boost local businesses while saving on shipping and the energy used to get that package to you. Another positive – the more local you shop, the better chance that you will find individual and unique pieces for your space at home. Dare to be different and energy efficient.
Tip #4: Gardening is a pastime for many people throughout warmer seasons. Even if you don’t have a yard, you can still grow flowers or small vegetables in your apartment. Complement your space and appetite with vibrant colored peppers, flowers and greens to accent as a design piece until they are ready to be picked. Another great tip is to gather rain water from a bucket or run-off pipe to water your plants indoors.
